Hospice Education Sessions Now Available Online 💻
The Palliative Care Breakfast lectures are now being offered online. You may not be able to enjoy the networking and delicious Harvey Bakehouse muffins, but the valuable information and education offered by these presentations will still be available.
Hospice Mid Canterbury has been hosting these presentations, which are provided by Hospice New Zealand, since 2017. Topics have been many and varied, ranging from Nutrition and Hydration in Palliative Care to Palliative Care in Dementia.
Most attendees have been health professionals, but now that access is available through the internet, it’s more easily accessible to all. For further information, please contact the committee at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The HMC Education Committee consisting of Christine and Nigel Dean and Karen Hall thank the following businesses for supporting the breakfast lectures – Rosebank for the venue and Harvey’s Bakehouse for supplying the breakfast, both free of charge. Karen recently visited Sue Prowse at Rosebank and Matt Harvey at Harvey’s Bakehouse to thank them personally. ... See MoreSee Less
Well done Karen on your great work with Hospice.
Awesome job Karen. Thank you so much.
What awesome businesses!
Say hello to our lovely volunteer Pauline!
Pauline’s first year as a volunteer has been a busy one, with her skills and talents finding a ready home at HMC.
She has supported clients in a variety of ways, including shopping, transport and companionship. But her hospice work doesn’t end there – baking and meals, helping sort goods for the garage sale and providing admin support for the funding committee. Pauline’s definitely a woman of many talents.
When Pauline retired, she chose to volunteer for hospice because of the services provided to the community. However she has been surprised to discover just how much is on offer. She gets satisfaction from being able to help others in need and enjoys the fellowship of other volunteers. ... See MoreSee Less
Well done 👍 Pauline
Say hello to our wonderful volunteer John!
John has been part of the busy Hospice Mid Canterbury biography team for around 3 years, working with clients to record their life stories. He also brings clients to weekly exercise therapy class and joins in the fun, providing support when needed.
In his volunteer role, John gets back as much he gives and enjoys helping clients make the most of the time they have left. “I get real satisfaction in seeing the clients getting benefit from the support I offer.” He has developed some strong friendships as a biographer and keeps in touch with regular visits. He also enjoys the camaraderie with other Hospice volunteers. ... See MoreSee Less
Now we know farming men are the strong and silent type... yeah, right! But we wondered if there was anyone out there with a farming background interested in becoming a hospice volunteer.
We have clients who would enjoy a visit and a chat about what's happening on the land. We're not talking about a big time commitment - maybe an hour a week, or fortnight.
If this sounds like something you, or someone you know, might be interested in, please contact Belinda at email@example.com, or phone 03 3078387. or 027 227 8387 ... See MoreSee Less
Volunteers are what make our Hospice tick – from drivers to sitters; from bakers to fundraisers; from the shop team to the biographers; from assessors to receptionists. Each and every volunteer brings a wealth of life skills and experience, contributing to the warm heart of our organisation.
Margaret is a five-year Hospice volunteer veteran. Initially she sat with clients to give carers a break, and always enjoyed the wonderful chats she had with them. Since the opening of the base, she’s been a regular at exercise therapy sessions, armchair travel and anywhere else a friendly face and good cheer is needed.
Margaret gets great satisfaction getting to know clients and knowing that she’s helped them. She’s enjoying the growing number of services now available at the base and would like more people to know that Hospice Mid Canterbury support is from diagnosis and not just about palliative care. ...
